I suppose an ankle pad would be an option for a long-term fix. I spaced out the bottom bracket and pedal a bit, which helped, but it didn’t fully solve the problem. This is because it’s right at the level of my back foot in descending position. The only challenge for me, personally, is that I tended to ding my right ankle on the raised chainstay when giving it too much English or getting bounced around on rocky sections. Plus, it doesn’t fit into any of today’s bike category boxes it’s a one-of-a-kind design and riding experience. It’s reminiscent of those early ‘90s front-suspension hardtails - like my trusty Yeti ARC with a RockShox Mag 21 - but the exaggerated tires and modern technology make it feel right at home on today’s black-diamond flow trails. It’s fun because it harks back to why we started riding in the first place.namely, for fun. Hanger 6 Add to Cart USD 22.00 Buy 2 for 39. Buy 2 of the same derailleur hanger and receive a 10 discount. Since 1975, Trek has been providing American-made bikes for both enthusiasts and hobbyists. When all was assembled, it tipped the scale at 26.5 pounds, which is right in line with a high-end trail bike. Other component choices include the Selle SMP 209 saddle and Chris King NoThreadset headset. Apparently, this is something you have to get used to with a plus bike in order to get the most out of it. Stache breaks new trail bike ground, blending 29er hardtail simplicity and fun with trail-tuned suspension, geometry, and spec. It should be noted that I bottommed the rear tire on the rim on pretty much every ride - often making a loud ping! noise - but never flatted or compromised the rim in any way. Altogether, the set weighs about 1,700 grams, and each tire weighs about 900 grams. The M6 series is designed for trail use, and with an internal width of 40mm, the 640s support tires ranging from 2.8 to 3.2 inches. I sent the XTR hubs to ENVE to be built with its M640 hoops. The wheel choice, then, was pretty clear. ![]() The bike is part of Trek s Stache range of mountain bikes. It sports 29' wheels and has RockShox suspension. It’s a hardtail that you punish like a full-suspension bike for the pure fun of it (with the added benefit of efficient climbing out of the saddle). The 2019 Trek Stache 7 is an Trail Aluminium / Alloy mountain bike. This isn’t an XC hardtail, nor is it a bike for Strava PRs. All that with the light and stiff frame just make the Stache a bomber bike from start to finish. One of the themes of this Stache build is that everything needs to be burly. Trek have taken these properties and multiplied them tenfold by using every trick in their armoury to make the bike more trail friendly - like slack head angle and long top tube for a stable and confident ride, bolt through axles front and back and tapered fork. They stick to anything and float over soft mud like it was tarmac. Those 29"+ wheels can just go anywhere, literally anywhere, and are pretty much unstoppable through all sorts of technical rocky and rooty ground. Bontrager hubs and SUNRingle rims make up the wheelset.Įverything about this bike says fun to us. ![]() The 9.6 is the lower range offering, if you can call a £2700 bike 'lower range,' and sports a 120mm RockShox Yari fork, SRAM Guide R brakes and a SRAM GX 11-speed drivetrain. It worked a treat, and now they have introduced carbon models to reduce the overall weight - and increase fun presumably - even further. which meant the best deal was going to be buying a 2019 trek so it came down to what was available. Ive progressed from that to full suspension, back to hardtail, and after researching and test riding a bunch of bikes, ive settled on a trek stache 7. A little over a year ago Trek introduced their new Stache 29"+ bike, a regular 29er sporting 3 inch rubber to add an element of rugged capability to the high rolling speed of the wheel size. Ive ridden mountain bikes since the days of no suspension.
